NBA Basketball players Other Sport Figures donating to disaster in Haiti

donationAlonzo  Mourning (Miami Heat Star) and fellow NBA star Dwyane Wade are partnering to organize the “Athletes Relief Fund for Haiti” to encourage athletes to donate and help Haiti earthquake victims. The funds that Mourning and Wade raise will go to the Project Medishare, a charity that is helping with the relief on the ground in Haiti. Mourning flew to Haiti to help with the recovery effort. He spent time in a makeshift hospital, assisting medical personnel.

Many other athletes and celebrities have also geared up to help Haiti relief effort. The Sixers big man’s Samuel Dalembert Foundation is accepting donations to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and Washington Redskins are part of the recovery effort.Alonzo-Mourning_295_050602

Mourning is not a stranger to grief and desperation. He was suffering from a life-threatening kidney disease and required a kidney transplant, which he finally got in 2003. Mourning has been involved in charity work for over a decade now. His Alonzo Mourning Charity helps in the development of children and families living in at-risk situations and provides services that enhance the lives of youth in promise.
